Let’s get gluten free aware

"We know first hand how depressing a trip to the ‘free from’ aisle in a supermarket can sometimes be. Especially if it’s so small you find out you’ve actually walked past it in your hunt! We know that you want (and deserve) more choice and that’s why we were excited to hear that the theme of this year’s Coeliac UK’s Gluten Free Awareness Week focuses on the availability of gluten free products in stores.

Gluten free Awareness Week takes place on the 12th -18th May

This year is going to encourage supermarkets to widen their gluten free ranges to include the food that we love, such as:

• Fresh white bread
• Fresh brown bread
• Bread rolls
• Breakfast cereals
• Pasta
• Flour
• Crackers
• Cereal bars

We couldn’t be more excited by this! One of our missions is to provide you with great tasting food that will bring variety to the gluten free diet because eating the same thing everyday gets very boring, very quickly. Coeliac UK has come up with a range of different ideas that you can do to support the initiative including:

• Letting your supermarket know about the demand for gluten-free food using the materials in your Coeliac UK Gluten Free Awareness Week pack
• Asking your local dietician to support you by running one of Coeliac UK’s ‘Store Tours’
• Use Coeliac UK’s supermarket card to tell the team what’s available in your local supermarket
• Holding an information stand in your local supermarket and give out Coeliac UK’s leaflets and symptom cards.
